Low-FODMAP Barbecue Sauce

This awesome recipe comes from the “Fun Without FODMAP’s” blog. It’s versatile, tangy, and slightly sweet – I used it on Black Bean Burgers and in Vegan Sloppy Joe’s. Enjoy!

Low-FODMAP Barbecue Sauce

I love bbq sauce, but generally avoid it because it includes onion and garlic. This is a great recipe for anyone suffering from IBS or otherwise prefering a low-FODMAP diet.

  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp ancho chile powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper for added spice


  • Place all ingredients in a large pot to combine. Bring to a simmer on medium heat; cover and simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes and up to 4 hours.
